Summer Arts Programme 2014

Laois Arts Office: Summer Arts Programme 2014

Summer Arts pictureYoung artists and musicians around the county have had lots of fun taking part in the Laois County Council Summer Arts Workshops 2014. The workshops began at the beginning of July in Kiln Lane Community Centre when Artist Siobhan Keogh involved children aged 7 to 12 in making lots of new and creative artwork. The next week the focus was on making art with clay when Finn O’Hara led creative pottery workshops for a large number of participants, with lots of lovely pieces made to bring home to display. The third week artist Conor Brennan held workshops in Portlaoise where again the emphasis was on being creative with art and enjoying the experience of learning new ways of making art. And also in Portlaoise writer Ann Egan gave a creative writing course for young people aged 12 to 15 using themes such as their favourite place ever as one of the themes for their writing. The final week at the Laois Arthouse, Stradbally was fantastic fun for the children as resident Arthouse artist Caroline Keane showed her amazing talent of turning what some people call waste, into fun pieces of art.
